Contrastive grammar: contrasting syniccc (2) 5. Case,

•    E: syntactic functions of NPs (subj., DO, 10. C) marked by word order: John boiłght apples. / *Apples hought John.

•    P: syntactic functions of NPs marked by case inflections: Jan kupił jabłka. / Jabłka kupił Jan.

•    Etigłish possessive: expressed by ‘s or the o/^contruction; ‘s marks the whole NP as possessive.

•    Polish genitive: the genit?ve inflection marks the N, not NP. The N takes the genitive suffix also in other non-possessive contexts.
