and lateral geniculate bodies, which are components of the auditory and visual pathways, appear as two darker nuclei that flank the thalamus on the right and left sides at the same level as the commissure (see F). The crura of the fornix can be seen between the thalamus and corpus callo-sum. This is the first section that passes through part of the cerebellum. Here the middle cerebellarpeduncle passes laterally toward the cerebellar hemispheres.
