These items clearly demonstrate the interchangeability of forms of mount on one category of strap.
Copperalloy
1187 TL74 acc. no. 2398 (context 368) ceramic phase 12 fig 136 & colour pl 5B Thirteen composite loops, in varying States of com-pleteness, along centre of leather strap, 127xl2mm (tom off at one end, strap-end no. 588 on the other); the surviving parts of the mounts suggest that each consisted of a stamped circular sheet with an engrailed edge, d 8.5mm, with oblique, lines (cable pattem)
around a domed centre; the single rivet has a rove, and a looped end at the front with a freely moving U-section sheet ring.
The following iron items (from the same deposit) suggest that the rings here are loops from incomplete sheet pendants. Cf also sexfoil no. 951/fig 119.
Iron
1188 TL74 1096 (368) 12 fig 136 & colour pl 3
28 whole or fragmentary stamped-sheet pinnate leaves, each 21x59mm, with veining; a loop at the top of each is attached to the looped end of a rivet, which passes through a U-section sheet ring, and has a
