d 30mm; fleur de lis at the end of each of three bars (cf sceptres) which cross at the centre, within a double tressure of six pointed arches, with trefoils at the points and dots in the outer interstices, all surrounded by a band with a running scroll with trefoils, within a beaded border; pin incomplete; pewter (AML); a bubble formed during the casting has resulted in a sizeable void.
1355 BWB83 5013 (293) 11 fig 169 Incomplete; apparently pierced centrally, trimmed at the edge with a sharp instrument, folded in two (this has resulted in breakage, and the loss of one half) and then in two again - now unfolded; d 27mm+; central boss with radiating lines, originally within a double tressure of six ogival pointed arches, with trefoils at the points and dots in the outer interstices, surrounded by a band with circle-and-dot motifs, all within a beaded border.
The three above brooches have designs very similar to a number of devotional ones with legends referring variously to Christ, the Virgin, St Thomas Becket, and the Three Kings (cf

d 25mm; crude; four fleurs de lis radiating from a (?)circle in the centre, with three dots in each space between, all in a band with a running zigzag of dots between linę borders, with a beaded edge. The design is poorly registered; non-alignment of the part of the mould for the front with the two parts for the back and the pin has resulted in the edge beading extending beyond the flan on one side, so that the dots give the disc an irregular outline. The back is cross-hatched, from scratches presumably for alignment of the two mould parts.
This brooch has been published (Spencer 1982, 320 no. 17 pl 16), and attention was drawn to the degener-acy of the design. The suggestion that this poorly
