2.    How would you interpret the results of a survey presented in the materiał?

The survey must have been carried out by an organisation which deals with ecological problems. One : problems in cities is the growing number of cars, which results in increasing congestion in the Street producing a large amount of exhaust fumes. The figures say that:

•    68% of drivers use their cars because they are not satisfied with public transport and they would leave car at home if public transport improved;

•    18% of drivers do not think that the cost of using a car is very high and they would consider a limited ; their cars if the cost of motoring was higher;

•    only 14% of drivers would decide to use their cars less for ecological reasons;

The conclusion is that public transport should be improved, because then the number of cars in the s might decrease considerably.

3.    What reason(s) could you give for not using each means of transport shown in the pictures?

   trains: dependence on timetables; trains are often delayed; high fares;

   planes: dependence on weather conditions; very expensive; dangerous because of terrorism;

   cars: a car can always break down; there are traffic jams in cities and on motorways; expensive whe; travel alone;

   ships: quite slow; boring - all you can see is water; people get seasick.

4.    What is your favourite way of travelling? Why?

In my opinion travelling by car is very convenient, because:

•    you do not have to depend on any timetables and start and finish your journey when you want;

- you can decide when, where and for how long to stop;

•    you can choose a route to get to your destination;

•    while driving you can listen to the radio or musie;

® you can enjoy nice views while driving.

5.    How do you think transport will change in the futurę?

•    Petrol and diesel engines will be replaced with electric engines.

•    Private helicopters and smali planes will be used instead of cars.

•    Only public transport will be allowed in city centres.

® Veiy fast trains will be used to travel long distances.

•    Only supersonic planes will be used for intercontinental flights.
