• use cars less often so as to reduce air pollution and smog in big cities;

happy: having feelings of pleasure, because something good bas happened to you or you are satisfied with your life

1.2. What makes people happy? How important are the following factors in being happy? If you were to pul these in order of significance, which would you place at Ihe very top and bottom?
• high income,
• being young,
• being famous,
• good health,
• genuine love and friendship,
• good family life,
• fascinating work,
• possession - having a car, a big luxurious house, etc.,
• power - being in a position to tell other people what to do.
1.3. Does happiness depend on factors like these at all? Or does it depend on a person’s attitude to life and their attitude to other people?
• all the factors together and each of them individually can contribute to the feeling of happiness;
• different things make us feel happy at different times;
• it would be perfect if we could be 'healthy, wealthy and wise' all our lives, but we must remember that life continually brings problems, challenges, obstacles and unexpected turns which we will have to face;
• we must not put off happiness until later, after something is done or happens;
• we should learn to enjoy the present moment and not allow past problems and futurę concerns to dominate, frustrate and depress us.
