ABOUT THIS
lhere's something rather majestic about this heron, wading through the pond that he shares with lush liły pads, a friendly frog and a collection of colourful fish.
With its large proportions - a long and slender neck, and impressive wingspan - it's the sort of bird that's impossible to ignore. You'll use whole cross stitches on this design, adding a defining black streak to the beron's head, and black and grey shading to its plumage. Then, backstitch in a rangę of shades gives the finał detail that brings this bird to life. You'11 enjoy stitching the foliage in this picture, worked in a variety of shades, from *he energetic parrot green, to nature's own moss green. Of course, you could stitch just a section of this design, perhaps the frog and a lily pad or two. But one thing's for surę -whatever you stitch - it will be something to be proud of.
This opulent design is stitched on Coats Crafts UK 14-count white aida using 28 different shades of Anchor stranded cotton. The design is worked in whole cross stitch in two strands of thread and backstitch in one strand. A few fractional stitches define the eyes of the heron, frog and fish. This project is recommended for stitchers who are comfortable working backstitch and fractionals.
IFind the centre of your fabric by folding it in half both horizontally and vertically. Follow the ’0’ gridlines on the chart to find its centre and start stitching from here, working your way outwards from the centre of the fabric.
2 Work the cross stitch on the design in two strands of cotton. For every tiny symbol you see, work a fractional stitch.
3 Work the backstitch using one strand of cotton. Ref er to the key for the thread colour.
4Check over your finished stitching and prepare for making up.
