Beads and seed beads enrich the appearance of a tatted piece with numerous decorative possibilities, thaf s why we like them so much! In addition beads provide a perfect way to hide the tails after completing your project.
I- If the piece includes (blocks of beads ’ in its ending part:
2, 3, or 4 seed beads size 10-11 (Jablonex, Czechoslovakia) on both knotting and core threads make a solid błock of beads.
I would not recommend using morę than 4 ‘up’ and 4 ‘down’ seed beads in a błock, though if they are very smali and very regular (Japanese size 15), you may get away with 5 or even 6 seed beads on each thread.
After you finish tatting:
- Close the last ring or shape the last chain and tie the tails.
- Use a fine beading needle to puli the tails through different rows of beads on the knotting and on the core threads.
- After that, it is safe to cut the tails.
II- If the piece has a pearl (large bead) inside the last ring:
(as in the earrings on pp 22-23):
- Tum the finished piece over,
-Tie the tails.
- Puli the longer taił up front,
- Put a beading needle on.
- Pick up a pearl ° (if you need to fili in the space make it a
pearl with 1 or 2 seed beads: ° ° or ° ° ° ).
- Place the pearl or beads & pearl ON TOP of the last ring.
- Go over the core thread inside the POINTED picot;
- Than go through the pearl and beads again.
-Tie the tails and hide them inside the same pearl or other beads nearby (whatever is closer to the tied knot).
