Use two strands unless otherwise indicatcd by a number in parentheses.
To help prevent knotting and fray-ing, cut the lengths of thread in half before starting to stitch.
Each length of thread is madę up of six strands. Scparate them by holding the length between two fingers and pulling out one strand at a time.
Place the correct number of strands togethcr to thread the needle. Leave a 3” taił of thread on one side of the needle eye.

The sąuarcs on the chart corre-spond to the fabric sąuares. Each Cross and Half Cross Stitch is shown by a symbol from the list of colors.
To begin stitching, find the center of your fabric (see the front page). Find the center of the chart by foliowing the arrows at the edges.
Locate the nearest Cross Stitch symbol on the chart, then take your first stitch at the corre-sponding fabric square.
Continue counting from the chart to work the rest of the Cross and Half Cross Stitches. Symbols which fali under detail lincs should be workcd with an entire Cross or Half Cross Stitch, not a partial stitch.
Add the following details, using the number of strands indi-cated by the numbers in parentheses. Rcfer often to the color picturc on the package label to see what the finished effect should be.
When Straight and Back Stitch are listed together, use Straight Stitch for the single straight lines and Back Stitch for all other lines.
Make the Back Stitches on the “IIUMMINGBIRDS" OUtliTlC tllC length of one fabric sąuare.
Make the Back Stitches on the border the length of four fabric squares. Make all remaining Back Stitches the length of a linę on the chart.
Black lines — black (1) Straight and Back Stitch
Thick green lines — dk. blue (1) Back Stitch
Thin green lines — dk. grey green (1) Straight and Back Stitch
Black • s — dk. grey green (2) French Knots
Thin red lines — rosę (1) Straight and Back Stitch
Thick red lines — orange (1) Back Stitch
