Image Number 050 - Endocardial fibroelastosis, heart
Endocardial fibroelastosis is believed to be the morphological consequence of several different processes. The characteristic feature is the thickened endocardium. Normally the endocardium is a single layer of endothelial cells resting on a thin layer of collagenous and elastic connective tissue. Note that the endocardium overlying the myocardium has about twenty layers of elastic laminae.
