Reflection From a Good Conductor

We now consider the situation illustrated in Figurę 9.1 in which a piane electromagnetic

wave is incident form the left on the boundary at the piane z = 0 of well-conducting (but

not perfectlyconducting) medium.

We suppose here an incident wave at normal incidence on the boundary of the wellconducting

(but not perfectly conducting) medium suffers almost complete reflection. If

the reflection were complete the electric field Eoat the surface would be zero and the

total magnetic field Ho at the surface would be double that of the incident wave.
