based on the work of M. Klimaszewski [2]. The results of investigations of L. S t a r k e 1 [3] and E. J o ń c a [4] describing the technical demands concerning the relief were also taken into consideration.
On the base of the works mentioned above as well as on that of own field investigations the present authors have classified all the forms in the area concerned on the geomorphological evaluation map with re-ference to their suitability for: (a) house building, (b) road construction, (c) cultivation.
The key to this map is given below (Tables I-IV).
T a b 1 e I. Landforms generally suitable for house building, road construction
and cultivation
Landforms
1 Surfaces of planation and structural plains
2 Slopes, valley-sides and trough-like valleys inclined up to 8°/o
3 Plains of the middle and high river accumulation terraces and alluvial fans inclined up to 8°/o
Reasons for evaluation Flatness, compactness, slow dissection
Low inclination, lack of intensive mass movements Flatness, compactness
T a b 1 e II. Landforms making house building difficult
1 Broad, rounded ridges
Isolated fiat areas up to 10 ha on the top of hills and ridges, separated by slopes inclined over 8°/o Plains of the low river accumulation terraces
Steepness of the lower part of slopes makes access to the top of a ridge difficult, lack of fiat areas Hardly accessible smali areas
Wetness, low compactness, dissection by a dense network of meanders
T a b 1 e III. Landforms making house building and road construction in the direction of the maximum inclination of slopes difficult
1 Slopes and valley-sides inclined 8- Steepness, intensive mass movements
30°/o ł and soil erosion
2 Trough-like valleys inclined 8-30°/o Steepness, intensive mass movements
and soil erosion, danger of the head-water erosion (downcutting)
T a b 1 e IV. Landforms making house building, road construction
and cultivation difficult
1 Narrow and sharp ridges; dome-like, mound and conical summits
2 Slopes and valley-sides inclined over 30%
3 Niches of rockfalle and landslide scars
Steep slopes, intensive soil erosion
Steepness, intensive mass movements and soil erosion
Steepness, danger of further mass move-ments
