SUMMARY

The structure of the library collection of Voivodeship Public Library in Opole has been characterized in three articles.

The most valuable library collection is the vintage collection of manuscripts, antique books (among others incunabula), cartographic collection and antique drawings and engravings. Owing to this particular collection (which is immensely important for the national heritage) the library in Opole has been incorporated onto the list of institutions constituting the National Library Collection.

Book collections (both scientific and academic for the generał public) pertaining to almost all fields of knowledge (though special emphasis is put on liberał arts and social Sciences) constitute the core of the library’s collection. A special collection that documents the past and the present of Silesia is the regional collection. Occasional prints, documents representing the social life, photo-graphs and postcards are very illuminating. The foreign languages book collection of Voivodeship Public Library fulfills the educational needs of the inhabitants of Opole. An important part of the collection is constituted by audio-visual materials: audiobooks, musie recordings on CDs, films on DVDs, CD-ROM databases. In addition, the library possesses a representative set of nationwide periodicals pertaining to liberał arts and science.

The rare, vintage collection (access to which is limited due to their preservation) as well as the publications conceming Opole Silesia are transmitted onto digital data carriers and are madę available on the Internet on the website of Opole Digital Library.

ZUSAMMENFASSUNG

In drei Artikeln wurde die Struktur der Bestande in der óffentlichen Woiwodschaftsbiblio-thek Oppeln charakterisiert.

Die wertvollste Sammlung der Bibliothek bilden die Altbestande: Handschriften, alte Drucke (darunter Inkunabeln), Karten und alte Grafiken. Dank dieser fur das Kulturerbe wichtigen Bestande befindet sich die Oppelner Bibliothek auf der Listę der Einrichtungen, die den Nationalen Bibliotheksbestand bilden.

Die Grundausstattung der Bibliothek bilden: die wissenschaftliche Literatur, Sachbiicher aus fast allen Wissensbereichen, mit besonderer Berucksichtigung von geistes- und sozialwissen-schafllicher Literatur. Eine besondere Sammlung, die die Vergangenheit und die Gegenwart von Schlesien dokumentiert, sind die regionalen Bestande. Interessant sind die Flugschriften, Doku-mente des gesellschaftlichen Lebens, Fotos und Ansichtskarten. Zur Bildung der Einwohner der Woiwodschaft tragen zahlreiche Fremdsprachenbestande bei. Einen wichtigen Teil der Sammlung bilden audiovisuelle Medien: Audiobucher, CDs mit Musik, DVD-Filme und Datenbanken auf CD-ROMs. Gesammelt werden auch die wichtigsten Zeitschriften aus den Bereichen der Geistes-und Sozialwissenschaften.

Die Alt- und Sonderbestande, dereń offentlicher Zugang begrenzt ist, wie auch die wertvol-len Publikationen uber das Oppelner Schlesien wurden digitalisiert und im Internet auf der Seite der Oppelner Digitalbibliothek der Allgemeinheit zuganglich gemacht.
