W Kopenhadze skutecznie zaprowadzono szereg zasad, dotyczących rozwoju miast, szczególnie ważnych dla rozwoju terenów poportowych: zastosowano podejście innowacyjne, polegające na funkcjonalnej różnorodności lokalizowanych przedsiębiorstw, usług, jak również rozmieszczenie różnych grup społecznych; zrealizowano zasadę lokalizacji nowych osiedli w pobliżu węzłów komunikacji publicznej i sieci kolejowej; zwiększono możliwość rozwoju obszarów w centrum miasta; poprawiono warunki mieszkaniowe; rozwiązano problem zapobiegania i hamowania destrukcji środowiska naturalnego.
