JACKPOT. Nct. - No w that the Jackpot Community Library has becn in operadon for 21 months, Tcny Donn i$ corwineed that it*s a good dcal.

Dunn, the community librarian, takes ovcr dulies ot 2 p.m. each afternoon, cxccpt Mondays. Up until that time, it is the school library and not open to the pub-lic. Mostly, the students use the place.

“1 would like to sec morę adulis. Our Spanish section is really cxpanding," Dunn said. Shc hupes the Hispanic popula-tion will use it morę once the word gets out that they are inereasing their Spanish section.

The one arca that is plenty busy is the Computer seetion.

“Ali this week it*s becn stand-ing room only,” Dunn said.

A lot of pcoplc who don‘t havc computers at homc or tourists wanting to check their e-mail visit. Terry Nall likes tho conve-niencc of the library. He works in construction and as a ranch hand.

"Latcly, I have becn herc about two days a week,"ho said.

The Ubrwy. wMch i* located near the Jackpot Combined Schoot ond Jackpot Recfcaton Center. Is open to tho publlc from 2-7 Tuesday through Thwjdoy, 2-6 p.m. Friday ond 10 om. to 4 p.m. Solurday.

The use of the computers and Internet access is a free. Library cards also are free.

The library, which was built as a school/county facility and pat-terned after libraries in other smali communilics throughout the State, is fuli scrvicc, with audio and vidco materiais and a large assortment of books, said Dunn, who is paid by the town of Jackpot. She also can order books from other libraries throughout the State.

The library will soon replace two of its cight computers with new siato of the ort ones. The computers are manufacturcd fur the Bill and Meiinda Gatcs Foundation by Gateway Inc., and are available to libraries partici-pating in the State Panncrship Program through a grant, Dunn said. One of the computers will be in Spanish.

The library also liouses a chU-drcn’s room and a mecting/dass room wherc Dunn holds spccial programs for thechildren. At 3:30 p.m. each Wedncsday, shc offers a story hour and craft activity, and another craft activity at 1230 p.m. each Soturday. These are open to all children, rcsidcr.ts and guests alike.

Via long-distance cducation, scveral teachers arc.working towards their mastcr's degrees at the library, induding eight pursu-ing a masteris in literacy studies from the University of Nevada Reno.

. “With LDE, we can internet with our professors," said Sue Frank, first-grade teachcr. “It’s dosc to the school."
