STRUCTURAL CHARACTERIZATION OF THE O-SPECIFIC POLYSACCHARIDE FROM THE LIPOPOLYSACCHARIDE OF THE FISH PATHOGEN Aeromonas bestiarum STRAIN PIS
The O-specific polysaccharide obtained by mild-acid degradation of lipopolysaccharide of Aeromonas bestiarum PIS was studied by sugar and me-thylation analyses along with 'Hand l3C NMR spectroscopy. The seąuence of tlie sugar residues was detennined using ‘H/H NOESY and ‘H,I3C HMBC experi-ments. The O-specific polysaccharide was found to be a high-molecular-mass polysaccharide composed of tetrasaccharide repeating units of the structure —»2)-P-D-Qui/>3NAcyl-( 1 ->2)-(3-D-Rib/-( 1 ^4)-(3-D-Gal/?-( 1 ^3 )-a-D-uc/?NAc-(1—►. Since smali amounts of a terminal Quip3N residue were identified in me-thylation analysis, it was assumed tliat the elucidated structure also represented the biological repeating unit of the O-specific polysaccharide.
