1    Mia : Vergeet niet, zodra je in Amsterdam/

aankomt, mij een prentbriefkaart (1) te sturen :

2    ik verzamel ze nu al een paar jaar.

4    Mia: Ik kan het zo maar niet zeggen : ik

heb ze nooit geteld.

5    Dora ;lk zou je graag iets sturen,

6    maar het zal een probleem geven : ik heb geen Nederlandse postzegels,

7    en 's zaterdags (2) zijn de postkantoren zeker gesloten.

9    Dora . Best mogelijk, maar dan zijn slechts

een paar loketten open.

and the post offices are surely closed on

OPMERKINGEN

(1)    Een brielkaart: a postcard.

(2)    's is a contraction of des, an old second case masculine and neuter singular form of the definite article. It is no longer used except in standard expressions. Here it adds the mean-ing on' to the word which follows (to which an -s is also added)' s zondags (on Sundays). 's maandags (on Mon-days), 's woensdags (on Wednesdays). The initial ’s is omit-ted. however, with dinsdags (on Tuesdays), donderdags (on Thursdays), and vrijdags (on Fridays).
