Campaign 3

Name ...................................................... Date ...........................................................

End of course Test: Speaking

Time allowed: 1012 minutes

Ensure that students are familiar with the structure and format of the end of course speaking
test at least a week in advance of the test itself.

Task 1 (Prepared Presentation – 5 minutes)
Ask students to give a five minute presentation to the class on a topic of their choice from
Campaign 3.

(This should be prepared at home. Students may use any available equipment during their
presentation. Unit 8, delta will be of help as a reference point.)

Task 2 (Questions from the floor – 5 minutes)
Student should then respond to questions from classmates on the content of the presentation.

(You may wish to advise each presenter to anticipate the nature of the questions they might
receive, as well as ways of dealing with difficult questions, how to tackle badly-phrased
questions, etc.)

You may want to mark student performance on some of the following:*
1 Personal introduction, function
2 Structure of presentation: Clarity of structure/question protocol, etc.
3 Language (appropriacy, level, style)

4 Delivery – pronunciation, vocal clarity etc.
5 Response to questions from the floor, e.g. ability to understand and respond succinctly,
requests for reformulation of questions etc.

(Note that those elements you chose to assess should be made clear to students in advance of
the test and prior to preparing their presentations.)

Task 1 could be carried out over one or two lessons depending on the size of your class.
Mark this part out of 50.

*Note that we have not suggested adherence to any particular assessment scales as teachers
may wish to use the above tasks as practice for a forthcoming exam and as such, may wish to
apply established scales to them.
