Chapter 4 — Question 3

Explain spectral sensitivity and name three types of films.

Answer

Spectral sensitivity describes the range of wavelengths to which the emulsion of
a film is sensitive. Sensitisation techniques, e.g. adding sensitising dyes to the
basic silver halide emulsion, are used to produce films that are also sensitive to
wavelength that are longer than those of the blue part of the spectrum.

Types of films are: Monochrome (Pan and Infrared)and Colour (true colour

and false colour).
