Lab 14.4.3: Windows Update

Estimated Time: 15 minutes

Objective

To update service packages in Windows 2000.

Equipment

The following equipment is needed for this exercise:

A computer with Windows 2000 installed

Scenario

As the system administrator of a small company, you are responsible for maintaining and
upgrading the system and individual workstations. There is a new employee arriving next
week, and the system that is going to be used needs to have upgrades installed.

Procedures

Step 1: Navigating to Windows Update website

1. Click

Start > Windows Update

The following screen should appear.

2. Click

Windows Update.

The screen should appear as follows.

Step 2: Determining which upgrades to down load

1. Click on the Scan for updates radio button. Windows will scan the system and

notify the user of the upgrades that are available. This may take some time
depending on the system.

2. Once the scan is complete, the user must choose to add or remove an update.

Note: The install packages in this picture will be different for other systems.

The screen should look like the following.

3. After the user has chosen the install packages, click on the Install Now button

the screen will look like the screen below.

4. The Licensing agreement will pop up, click on the Accept button.

A dialog box will appear to inform the user of download and installation progress.

5. Once the down load and installation are complete, a message box will appear

informing the user that the computer must be restarted to complete the
installation. Click on the OK button.

6. The upgrade to the system is complete.
