3. After passing Elding, the southern end of that islet in
line with the extremity of the land near Snowhead, bearing
about 207° astern will take a vessel north-eastward of
Yellows.
4. To enter the road pass northward of Kingstone, and
midway between Blackrock and the islet off the east point
of Giant, and proceed between Barr and Carr for free
anchorage.
5. Vessels from northward may approach Giant Point
Lighthouse when bearing about 150°, or less. The point
should be rounded at the distance of about one mile, keeping
Station Hill open westward of the lighthouse until Beacon
Hill on Entrance Point is in line with Riddel Point,
bearing 110°, which mark leads north-ward of the Pearl
Shoal dangers.
6. Unless having recent local knowledge, no attempt should
be made to enter without a pilot. The channel is liable to
constant alterations, so that the buoys and leading lights
may not define the proper channel.
7. Vessels making for Moro harbour should pass to the
westward of Render as there are many shoals between Seal
and the mainland to the east.
In clear weather the approach to High Pick is not
difficult, as lights and landmarks can be seen from great
distances. In poor visibility the radiobeacon is useful.
On radar, in especially good conditions, High Pick can be
detected at 30 miles. The radar image at 10 to 12 miles
range generally resembles the charted shape of High Pick.
8. To reach the anchorage, in the deepest water, pass
about 2 miles southward of Alien Island, and steer for
Parker Point until past the reef of the south-western point
of Alien Island, then parallel with the shore of the island
until abreast of Parker Point, distant about 2 miles and
anchor from 26 - 35 feet.
