DESCRIPTION OF PRACTICE (TECHNIQUE / SKILL)

To develop the technique of pressure and cover practice.

“Pressure then Cover (Support)” When the ball is travelling to the attacker the defender must get in motion to put pressure on the ball Close down the line with an arched approach Put the brakes on when the attacker takes their first touch Add in the cover player after correct “Pressure” is applied.

ORGANISATION

30 x 20 grid

2 v 2 (+1)

2v2 in middle of grid after serve from outside

Looking to achieve good pressure and cover

1^st defender applies pressure on the ball 2^nd Defender gets correct angle and distance of support 1^st defender (Pressure Player) show the attacker inside - into cover (Support) 1^st defender (Pressure Player) shows the attacker outside - away from the covering player (Support), BUT to the sideline.

KEY FACTORS: For cover player

Adopt correct angle and distance from pressure player and opponent

Position to see ball and immediate opponent

Cover player to communicate information

NOTES

Offside must be applied
