TOPIC / THEME: Technique - Control on the Move
OBJECTIVE OF PRACTICE:
This practice is designed to develop and progress the player's ball control techniques on the move
ORGANISATION:
Grid size: 12m x 12m with a 3m channel between grids
16 players; in groups of four, players working in pairs with a ball between each pair
Two gates are positioned in opposite corners of the grid 1m in width
Players work in pairs across the grid
The server passes through the gates to a receiver who controls the ball into space to pass the ball back to their partner
Progress by lifting the gates and allow players to move freely within the grid, continue working in pairs
KEY OBSERVATION FACTORS:
Get into Line of Flight
Decide on Surface
Offer Surface
Use Surface to control the ball out of body for the next activity
Work off the balls of the feet in order to get into position to play return pass
NOTES:
Ensure coaches remind players of Generic Key Factors when attending to the session
The server performs accurate, weighted serves
When players move and pass, allow the players as many touches as is necessary until supporting player is in a position to receive the pass
When players move freely, allow as many touches until support player is ready to receive pass
Don't allow players to increase the tempo until the technique is performed correctly
