Reading
Dear John, Thanks for the email. Sorry it's taken so long to get back to you but I've been really busy. It was great to hear from you and I'm glad to hear you're doing well apart from the problems at work. I must admit I didn't know that teachers had to work so hard. I've been working really hard recently too and I have to admit I'm sick and tired of what I do. It's a dead-end job and I'm not going anywhere. At first I had my sights set on a managerial post but I've realised there are relatively few promotion prospects. And on top of everything else I'm not very well off at the moment because I've just bought a new flat. It cost me an arm and a leg though it's a beautiful flat. It's on the edge of town and looks out over the mountains. When I was young I'd spend summers in the mountains and I know them like the back of my hand. I'd love to retire to one of the little villages round here one day but I don't know if I could afford it. The houses in the villages used to be dirt cheap but that seems to have changed. Anyway I hope you'll be able to get up to pay me a visit soon. Let me know when you're free. All the best, Tom |
