I think we can all agree: winter and skin aren’t always the best of friends. I don’t know about you, but it seems as if the second the temperature starts to drop, my skin puts up a fuss. It’s like a switch gets flipped and overnight my skin turns dry and flaky, especially when it comes to my hands.

Because our hands are often exposed to the harsh winter elements, they can take a beating when temperatures plummet. And as if irritated, painful hands aren’t bad enough, cracks in the skin can provide an entryway for germs, causing you to get sick more often. That’s why nourishing our skin is so important.

To keep my hands in tip top shape, I like to use everyday household ingredients combined with nourishing essential oils from Aura Cacia to help calm and heal my irritated skin. And Aura Cacia has done the hard work for us by creating a Nurture Essential Oil Blend that’s just for your nails. It combines the power of tea tree, coriander, palmarosa and lavender essential oils.

Add these three steps to your natural manicure to winterize your hands and show your skin a little TLC this winter. It’s easy to add essential oils to a simple scrub, a nail soak and cuticle oil for even more benefits.

1. Lavender Baking Soda Soak

Start with a mild soak to calm dry, itchy skin and replenish moisture. Baking soda helps soften flakes and soothe irritated winter skin, while glycerin locks in moisture and shields skin from the elements. Add a few drops of Aura Cacia lavender essential oil to further soothe chapped skin.

Mix everything together in a bowl and allow your hands to soak for 15 minutes.

2. Lemon Sugar Scrub

Follow up with a gentle sugar scrub to remove dead skin cells and help restore your hands to their naturally soft, radiant state.

Mix all the ingredients together and pour into a lidded jar. Gently massage a quarter-size amount of scrub in circular motions to slough away dry skin. Rinse thoroughly, pat dry, and moisturize with a little extra almond oil if necessary. You can save the remaining scrub for up to a week in the refrigerator.

3. Nurturing Cuticle Oil

Finally, don’t forget to show your nails a little love. Aura Cacia has just released new DIY blends that take the guesswork out of blending your own essential oils for recipes. The Nurture Essential Oil Blend is perfect for creating a hydrating cuticle oil to replenish moisture and keep hangnails at bay.

Combine all the ingredients in a small bowl. Pour into roll-on bottle and gently massage into nails and cuticles once per day.

Thank you to Aura Cacia for sponsoring this post. The opinions are all our own
