Yarn:
Highland Wool by elann.com, color # 1477, 100% wool, any light worsted weight
yarn will do, or if this it too wide for you, DK or even fingering weight yarn with smaller
needles would be alright. It should be yarn which can be blocked, which is necessary
with this stitch pattern. Used 4.5 balls ~ 490yds.
Needle:
US 6 (4mm)
Gauge
: is not important
Size before blocking:
9.5”x 56.5”
Size after blocking:
11”x 71”
Notions:
2 stitch markers, tapestry needle
Seed stitch pattern:
multiples of 2 + 1
Row 1: K1, *P1, K1* repeat to end.
Row 2: repeat row 1.
To get an even edge, pull every second stitch tight, after knitting.
Cast on 45 stitches.
R 1-5: work in seed stitch pattern.
R6: K1, P1, K1, P1, K1, place marker, start “Grasshopper” chart, read from right to left,
work repeat 3 times, place marker, end with P1, K1, P1, K1.
Following rows: Stitches before and after stitch markers are worked in seed stitch pattern.
Work “Grasshopper” chart 11 times, (or until desired length).
Work next 5 rows in seed stitch pattern.
Bind off. Weave in ends. Soak in warm water, block scarf lightly.
