1  Introduction  

This Release Notice identifies the changes made with the release 2.0 version of the Alcatel-
Lucent Scalable IP Networks course and exam from the Alcatel-Lucent Service Routing 
Certification Program.   

 

Course duration – 4 days (unchanged) 

Exam duration – 75 minutes (unchanged) 

Exam questions – 60 (unchanged) 

2  Summary of Course Changes  

•  Expanded the background on Internet development and structure including Internet 

Service Providers, POPs and IXPs. 

•  Added description of a packet transiting an Alcatel-Lucent 7750 Service Router 
•  Provided more detail about Layer 2 technologies such as PPP, ATM and SONET/SDH 
•  Revised the Spanning Tree Protocol section to focus on a basic overview of the purpose 

and operation of STP 

•  Reduced emphasis on VLSM and CIDR, instead focus on effective application of IP 

subnetting 

•  Provided more examples of IP address planning using several different case studies 
•  Removed RIPv2 material and lab exercise 
•  OSPF section reduced to describe a single area network and router LSAs only 
•  BGP section reduced to cover only the basic purpose and operation of BGP with a simple 

configuration exercise 

•  More description of the purpose and operation of an MPLS network, including MPLS 

label operations 

•  Augmented the description of VPN service implementation including key components 

and introduction of the service label 

•  Added simple VPLS configuration exercise and analysis of the VPLS service components
