"Easy Step-by-Step Guide to Painting a Terrifying Tiger!"
Step 1: Use either a sponge or brush to paint a white base onto the face.
Tip: If you use a brush you'll be able to create a more textured effect that
will look more like hair.

Step 2: With a medium sized brush paint orange surrounding the eye on
the forehead, cheek and nose as shown in the picture. Repeat on the
other side.
Step 3: Add a little more orange to the lower cheeks heading towards
above the upper lip.
Step 4: With a pointed brush use black to outline the eyes, accentuating
both corners of the eyes. Paint a rounded triangle beneath the nose and
a triangle on the lower part of the upper lip - connect these two with a
line.Continue the black on the lower part of the upper lip then paint the
lower lip.
Step 5: Using a thin pointed brush, paint three lines of dots on both
sides of the triangles under the nose as seen in the picture. Then paint
the corners of the mouth with small brush strokes making the mouth look
wider. Also accentuate the eyes more by adding more black to the outer
corners as seen in the picture. Then add little black lines on the chin
giving the appearance of fur. Paint the tip of the nose with a light pink.

Step 6: Using the picture for guidance paint the shapes shown by painting thin brushstrokes
starting from the edge of the shape spanning outwards towards the edge of the face.
Step 7: Continue the types of brushstorkes from step 6 in the areas
shown in the picture. Remember that your brushstrokes are creating the
fur effect so they should be following the grain. Imagine the face to be a
circle and the centre is at the third eye so your brush strokes are going
outwards from that point.
Step 8: Using the picture continue this technique to the other side of the
forehead. Don't worry about making it perfect because they are not
symmetrical in shape, simply use this picture as a guide it doesn't have
to be exact just your interpetation of it.
Step 9: Continue down the cheek remembering to direct your
brushstrokes outwards. This design will take you awhile the first time, but
don't stress the more times you do it the quicker you will become.
And that's all there is to it! If you like, experiment with the design, make changes where
you want, add some different colours and most importantly have fun !!!

"Painting Tricks & Techniques Part 3"
How Do I Blend Colours Using the Drag and Blend Techinique?
Paint on the first colour you want to blend and while it is still wet, paint a line of the second colour
near the first and with a brush or sponge drag the second colour across to blend in with the first.
You ll have to do this quickly, before the paint dries otherwise its not going to blend.
How Do I Paint 2 Colours Near Each Other Without Having it Smudge?
Wait for the first colour you ve painted to dry completely, then add the second colour using a
brush that is as dry as possible without being too dry that paint won t rub off it.
"A Trick to Using Sponges Effectively"
Sponges are great tools when used properly. A problem a lot of face painters have is trying to get
the right consistency. A little trick that helps tremendously is not wetting the sponge, but wetting
the paint and dabbing the sponge into the wet paint. If you're using liquid paint take a dry sponge
and dabb it into the paint, if you're using cakes then put a few drops on the cake and use a
sponge to dab a bit of paint then apply it to the face. It sounds simple but it'll give you excellent
even coverage!!
*** Note: There used to be a home made face paint receipe here but it was taken off due to
concerns with the ingredients.
When it comes to face paint your best and safest bet is to buy FDA approved face/body paint.

So, you ve had a lot of face painting practice on your friends and family, you ve got a few designs
that you re quite confident with, got loads of good safe face paint, all the tools  brushes, sponges
and palettes and you re about to do your first face painting gig? So, what s the most important
thing you must do before working in the face painting field?
Liability Insurance. You never know what might go wrong and you want to feel secure that if
something is to happen, you ll be covered. Also, many organizations including agents will not hire
you unless you have some level of liability insurance. Every country will have different insurance
companies/policies, so do your research and find the best most affordable form of liability
insurance.
You won t regret it!

"Making Money Out of Face Painting - Getting Started"
Below is a checklist of things you will need to do in order to start a face painting business and
hopefully start making money!:
Make sure you have a fair amount of face painting supplies  face paint, brushes, sponges,
palettes, glitter, iridescent powder etc and make sure your kit is portable and easy to set up
and pack away. You may also need you get a sturdy fold up table and chair for certain gigs.
Put together a portfolio of all the face painting designs you ll be able to paint, to show
customers and people interested in hiring you.
Register your own business name  try to pick something that s easy to remember, that
sums up what your business is about and if you want use your own name somewhere in the
business name: e.g. Phillip s Fun Face Painting Service.
In some countries there are face painting associations that you can join, they might give you
a test and give you some sort of accreditation if you pass and pay a membership fee. This
can be important to have if it exists in your country.
Liability Insurance  Like I stated above: you never know what might go wrong and you

Agents  Find an agent in your area that can find you work at all sorts of events  fairs,

give to anybody interested and to people who have already tried your services for future
reference.
Advertising  There are lots of ways to advertise  Newspapers, Directories (Yellow Pages),
Flyers, your children s school newsletters, online classifieds (some of these can be FREE
and are worth taking a look at) and putting up your own website. Inform your family, friends
and their families that you re available for birthday parties etc and once they see your skills,
hopefully word of mouth will spread finding you new business!!
Another great way to get more business is to volunteer your services, maybe at your child s
school fete? Then while you re there you can give out business cards and flyers which will
bring in more business for you in the future.
And remember to have business cards and flyers to give to people when you're doing a paid
face painting gig, it will be the best promotion for your business because people can see
you work your talents and skills right in front of them!!
Do your research! Find out what other face painters are doing. Observe their face painting
designs and make them you're own (A lot of face painters have websites with a gallery of
their work). Keep track of the most frequently asked face painting requests and make sure
you perfect those designs and create variations.
