Navigating By Tacan

Ok we got to get to another Airbase and it's not in our flight plan what do we do ? Well you could just follow the lead in your flight and hope he knows where hes going :) but what if you was LEAD well thats easy you just use TACAN and here's how you've been ordered to Choongwon AB.

First press the T-ILS button on your ICP

This will change the DED display as below

Now using the ICP keypad enter the Tacan for desired AB (in this example 005x) . Then press ENTER

(note that it only says 5 between the asterix's this is because 0 do not show up)

Next we have to switch modes from Nav to TCN

Once this is done look at the HSI and you will see the Bearing Pointer and Milage to selected Tacan station

Now all thats left to do is turn your Viper in the direction of the Bearing Pointer

As you can see in the above picture we are heading straight for the Tacan at Choongwon AB and we are 54 miles away

Navigating Using the Radial. Ok so you know how to get to the Airbase that has a Tacan Beacon but how do find an Airstrip that has'nt got a beacon. Well thats just as easy when you follow a few simple rules the first thing you will need is the Tacan list you can find it in the docs folder in the falcon dir. So you've been orderd to R605 AirStrip. Ok so look at your list find this AS youll notice in the Loc HSI colum this line

R055 TCN005x DME21. Ok what this is telling you basicaly is the AS is 21 miles at a heading of 055 from Tacan 005x (choongwon). Now the easiest way to get there is to fly straight to the tacan then when directly overhead the airbase press your mark button and hit enter then immediately turn to a heading of 055

Notice the purple X this is the place where you pressed the mark and enter button on the ICP panel

Now once you have marked the Tacan Stn turn to your new heading and in the picture above you can see i'am 2 miles from my marked postion so ill keep at the heading 055 till the milage says 21 but you should see the AS around 10-15 miles out
