Love and Money
Tracy Worthing is on her way downtown in a cab going to her construction site, still stinging with emotional pain over a recent bad break-up. She meets with several of her subcontractors and the heads of the other construction crews at the site. She sees everything in order, but is listless and doesn't take pride in it the way she usually does. She sees a handsome stranger talking to one of the subcontractors she knows at the site. The man is Hank Majors, a wealthy banker. He takes notice of her, but only shows it by a subtle look in her direction.
Tracy goes to lunch with one of her subcontractors and he introduces her to Hank, who Tracy hadn't met before. She is immediately charmed by the handsome banker's personality. After giving him her business card, she learns that he is leaving soon for a resort trip. Slightly defeated, she assumes he doesn't plan on going alone and must already have a partner.
Tracy goes home that night with the bad taste of disappointment in her mind. She does not want to get her hopes up over the way he talked to her. Hank, in the meantime, does have another date for the resort trip, but he breaks up with that other girl the very night after he meets Tracy because they are not compatible. He is confident and is impressed by what he sees in Tracy.
He calls her that same night.
Tracy and Hank meet up again and again over the next week or so at the job site. They have lunch together several times. At first, they try to only talk about business, but it slowly involves into more relaxed, personal conversation, as well.
One night, Hank calls her at home on her cell phone. He offers her the extra ticket to go to the resort with him since all expenses are paid and non-refundable. At first she is hesitant, but decides to leave the work to her subcontractors and accepts his offer to travel to the resort for a few days on the promise that he just wants to get to know her better.
She spends the night packing and thinking about Hank. She wonders if he is serious or if he is just trying to be cool. Tracy decides that even if he doesn't want to show his vulnerable side his quick call back marks him as a sensitive man. She is smitten with the idea, so rather than packing her sexy lingerie she leaves it out to wear the next day.
Hank talks to one of his business associates and learns his trip will take him to an island where a prospective client will be staying. His associate asks if he can do a face-to-face meeting with the prospect while he is down there and Hank reluctantly agrees. Hank packs his suit that night to go to the meeting on the trip.
Though Hank is nervous that he seems desperate to Tracy he drives to airport in style and tries to play off his feelings as simple jitters. He just broke up with his previous girlfriend, which prompted his call to Tracy after asking her subcontractor for her number. Tracy takes a cab to the airport. Hank meets Tracy at the airport and they sit together on the flight, making conversation the whole time. By the end of the long flight she is very pleased to be going with him. He holds her hand when she gets nervous on the plane's descent.
Tracy and Hank arrive at the resort and leave their luggage to be taken to their room before going out to enjoy the local sights as much as possible. They go around the beaches and swim and sunbathe together. That evening, Tracy discovers Hank's hotel room only has one bed. At first, Tracy gets angry with Hank, accusing him of being presumptuous and thinking she is easy. He is gentle, and offers to take the couch, saying that they don't need to do anything if she doesn't want to do it. At this point Tracy is infatuated with him. They make love that night. Both of them are energized all night.
The next morning Tracy sleeps late, but Hank has other plans.
Hank has to leave early for a business meeting with the prospective client near the resort. He leaves before Tracy wakes and goes to work. His plan is to come back before she notices he was even gone, but he is delayed at the meeting. Tracy wakes and discovers him gone.
She is heartbroken and afraid she has been used. These chaotic feelings within her also make her feel cheap. She tries to call Hank but gets his voice mail. She knows one way she can get back at Hank though she doesn't want to resort to that option. She gathers her luggage and waits only long enough to work herself up even more. Then she leaves the hotel room.
Tracy takes a shuttle to the airport in despair after Hank's early departure from the resort for the meeting she doesn't know about. She wonders how he could just leave her without saying goodbye and where he could have gone. She has left him a message telling him she is leaving the resort and won't be able to see him again, but regrets it already though she won't admit it to herself.
Hank is on his way back from his meeting in the rental car when he gets the message from Tracy's phone. He rushes to the airport. He has realized that he cares for Tracy and that he has to catch up with her or he'll miss the opportunity to get to know her better. His car arrives at the airport and he runs down the concourse looking for Tracy. She is about to board the plane when he catches up and shouts for her to wait. Tracy turns and Hank sweeps her off her feet and into his arms in a heartfelt embrace, apologizes to her and tells her about the meeting. She tearfully tells him she didn't want to hope he'd show, but she's glad he did. He confesses that he wants to get to know her better. She agrees that she would like that.
After a whirlwind hour they head back to the resort. Tracy cannot believe her luck.
