Cut sequencing
Things that will be covered in this section.
Cut sequencing
Toolpath sorting
Post processor options
From the menu select file > Open
Open the file - 2D_Multi_cut.wkf
This is a pre-defined part. In this exercise we will be defining the order of cuts (sequences) and the aperture order. To change the cut strategy, activate the CAM Navigator, righthand click on CAM-setup and select Properties
This will open the CAM-setup parameters dialog. Make sure that the strategy type is set to Use Pre-defined strategy then select the drop-down to show the strategies available
Attended day run (pockets) - Stop at tag on first cut, cut tag then cut all trims before moving to next aperture.
Unattended day run (pockets) - Cut all first cuts to tag, cut all tags then cut all trims on each aperture before moving to the next aperture.
Unattended night run (pockets) - Cut first and trims to tag on all apertures then cut tag and tag trims on each aperture in turn.
Attended bosses - Cut first and trims to tag, cut tag and tag trims then move to next boss
Attended bosses (tag area to be ground) - Cut first and trims to tag, cut tag then move to next boss
Unattended bosses - Cut first and trims to tag on all bosses then cut tag and tag trims on each boss in order.
Stress relief cutting - Cut all first cuts to tag, cut all tags then cut each trim in order on all apertures
Create rough tag and finish files - Sequence is same as unattended day run but the post-processor will output separate NC files for the roughing, tagging and finishing operations
Experiment with different settings and verify the toolpath by running Path-Lab
The above method will apply a single strategy to ALL machinings.
If Use manual strategy is selected as the strategy type, the strategy options are controlled in the machining details. Using this method, separate machining operations can have different strategies applied to them
Strategies define the cutting method but do not have any effect on the order in which the pockets are cut.
You may have noticed during the Path-lab simulations that the apertures were cut in an inefficient random order, to correct this we need to Sort the profiles, righthand click on the wire machining and select Edit geometry and pick the Sort icon then select Minimum distance in X.
This will re-order the profiles. You can check the change by running Path-lab
Experiment with the other options and run path-lab each time to see the result
NOTE:- If there is more than one machining operation defined in the CAM Navigator, Sort is also available from righthand clicking the Project option
Righthand click on the Machine option and select Properties
This will activate the Machine configuration dialog, here you will be able to set-up the preferred output format for your machine, the options available will differ depending on which machine make has been previously selected
