Welcome
Welcome to the Straightforward Pre-intermediate Teacher's Resource CD.
The tests and checklists on this CD have all been written to reflect the content of the units in the Straightforward Pre-intermediate Student's Book.
Twelve Unit Tests
These tests are designed to be used at the end of each unit of the Student's Book. Each test takes 30 minutes and tests the vocabulary, grammar and functional language presented in the Student's Book unit. The exercise types in the test should be familiar to students as they are similar to those used in the Student's Book and Workbook. Each Unit Test has a final score of 50 points. Where items in a test are awarded more than one mark, this is indicated on the Answer key.
Four Progress Tests
There is a Progress Test for every three units of the Student's Book. The Progress Tests include skills testing (Reading, Listening, Speaking and Writing) as well as language exercises. The language part of these tests is similar to the Unit Tests. Each Progress Test is designed to take 80 minutes and has a final score of 80 marks (40 for the language section and 10 marks for each of the skills sections).
Self-assessment Checklists
There is a self-assessment checklist for each Student's Book unit consisting of a list of `can do' statements that link to the skills and language content of the unit. The aim of the checklists is to encourage students to reflect on their language learning and language needs. After each unit, students can use the checklist to assess how well they think they can do specific things in English.
Using the tests
All the tests on this CD are fully editable. This means that any exercises can be deleted or changed to suit the needs of the individual class. Alternatively, the tests can be broken down into smaller chunks if time is a factor.
There is enough space in all the tests for students to write their answers on the page. However, students could also be emailed the tests and fill them in using a word processor. Completed tests could be then either printed out and marked or emailed back for marking on-screen.
The tests are easy to use.
Open the folder on the CD that relates to the appropriate type of test. Folders are named Unit Tests and Progress Tests.
Each test is in its own file so within either of the folders simply choose the test you want to use and double click to open. The test will open and can then be printed or emailed as required. To save an edited version of a test, use the Save as option and rename the document so that the original remains unchanged. Save your new document to your hard drive.
The Answer key and Listening script for each of the tests is in the folder for that test. Again, double click the file to open it and print out as required.
We hope you find the Straightforward Pre-intermediate Teacher's Resource CD useful and that you enjoy using it.
