An interview with a teacher

I had the strangest interview with my teacher yesterday. She was meant to be advising me about preparing for the exams, but it started off so negatively. First of all she told me that if I didn't work harder I definitely (1) _____n't pass the exams, and that it really was time I (2) _____ online. How could I expect to do research without Internet access, she said. But honestly, that's not my fault. I told her the computer centre (3) _____ always closed after school and she said that was my problem! Then she asked me if I really (4) _____ to pass the exams. What a question! She told me I (5) _____n't seem to care at all. Anyway, she went on and on like this, and there I was feeling more and more miserable, when suddenly she told me I (6) _____ the best student of physics that she (7) _____ ever taught, and that with luck and hard work I could have a brilliant future ahead of me. By this time I was feeling slightly uncomfortable! She told me she'd help me (8) _____ my computer repaired, and she'd have the computer centre (9) _____ at least 2 evenings a week. But best of all, she told me I (10) _____ win the school's £500 physics prize if my results are good. So, what do you think I'm doing now? Yeah, that's right … studying.

An interesting holiday

Dear all

Want to hear about a holiday from hell? Well, here goes … our first (and last) package holiday. Read on if you dare!

The holiday started with the flight out, and it's true that wasn't too bad except it was so crowded, there was no leg room on the plane and the in-flight meal was truly awful. No, the real fun started when we got there. This very nice, comfortable, modern airport, and the most chaotic organisation you could imagine - it took us two hours, yes two hours to get through passport control. You can imagine how happy we were beginning to feel.

Anyway, a coach was waiting for us to take us to the hotel - it was cool and clean, and there was a guide telling us all about the places we were passing, and she was very good at answering all our questions. So, no complaints there. But then the coach suddenly left the motorway and started going through these really miserable streets with half-made roads, half-empty shops, half-built houses and packs of sick-looking dogs all over the place. We were beginning to feel a bit worried at this stage. And quite rightly too … our next surprise was the hotel, if you can call it a hotel. The coach stopped outside this old, crumbing block of flats in the middle of a building site. There was a sign for the hotel hanging off the front at an angle and a pile of rubbish outside the front door. We got out and I noticed the coach leaving very fast - probably before we had a chance to look inside - horror of horrors: wallpaper falling off the walls, buckets on the floor to catch water from the ceiling, unfinished stairways, and our room - a tiny, tiny room for four with two beds squeezed in so there was no room to move, a dirty old carpet, a toilet and shower beyond description, and … well I won't tell you about the smell.

We went down to reception straight away to complain, and demand to get moved immediately, but we couldn't find a receptionist for half an hour, then when she did eventually turn up, she told us very impolitely that it was nothing to do with her, and that we'd have to contact the tour company's rep, who of course wouldn't be there till the next day. By this stage, Ellen was nearly crying, and Jo and Emma were getting very tired, having been up since 5 a.m., and starting to argue and complain about being starving. We tried to get some food out of a sweet machine, but there was nothing in it, of course.

Got to go now … tell you more later!
