WORKSHEET NUMBER THREE
MAKE A LIST OF EVERYTHING YOU DO EVERY DAY THAT INVOLVES USING YOUR NATIVE LANGUAGE IN SOME WAY (Watching TV, reading instructions on video games or your phone, reading a cookery book, listening to music, website and computer Interfaces, reading a newspaper, chess/yoga/dance etc.)
Make the list as exhaustive as possible.
(Continued on next page)
If this list doesn't include almost everything you tend to do every day (apart from sleeping, eating and breathing) then it isn't complete enough. Go back and think harder!
Now look at each item on the list and think of ways that you could do this in your target language (forget about your level, just think about if it is possible to actually expose yourself to the language or find someone who speaks that language (not necessarily a native) to do it with).
Can you listen to the radio online across the Internet? Can you order those how-to books from Amazon in the target language? Can you search for fellow chess players who speak Spanish/Chinese etc. on the Craigslist/Gumtree advertisement websites? Think of how it would be possible to do this in each of those activities, no matter how difficult or ridiculous that suggestion might sound. Write down as many ideas for this as possible:
Now, the most important step: Actually try your own suggestions!
