Mimi's Round Robin Doily, RR#5, January 1996 - June 1998

We used Size 30 DMC Cebelia thread in ecru for rounds 1, 2, 4, and 5. One ball was more than enough thread. The 3rd round Steph did in Kreinik metallic braid, #8 size, color 191 (just less than 2 reels required of this braid to do the round). Finished size: approx. 8 inches (21 cm) in diameter.

Round 1 - Mimi Dillman, Snohomish, WA This round was adapted from a pattern by Monica Hahn. 2 shuttles if doing CTM; otherwise, shuttle and ball is sufficient.	Center: R 3ds, p, 3ds, long p, 3ds, p, 3ds, cl; rw. *Ch 5ds, p, 5ds, p, 5ds; rw. R 3ds, join to 3rd p of first R, 3ds, join to long p of first R, 3ds, p, 3ds, cl; rw.* Repeat between *'s 3 more times, joining last p of last ring to the first p of the first ring. Ch 5ds, p, 5ds, p, 5ds. Join to base of first ring. Tie and cut - OR - make this last chain a split chain after the last p, and climb out to the next round (begin at the * of the next round if you do this). Round 2: Join ball thread and shuttle thread to the first picot of a chain of the center. *Cluny leaf (12 wraps); rw. R 3ds, p, 3ds, p, 3ds, p, 3ds, cl; rw. Cluny leaf (12 wraps); join to next picot.* Repeat between *'s 9 more times (you'll have 20 leaves and 10 rings). Tie and cut. (unless you know how to do a split cluny? <g>)
Round 2 - Pam Dotson, Everett, WA 2 shuttles	R 6 ds, p, 3ds, p, 3ds, p, 3ds, p, 3ds, p, 6 ds, cl. R 6 ds, join to last p of the first R, 3ds, p, 3ds, p, 3ds, p, 3ds, p, 6 ds, cl. Repeat second ring; rw. Ch 14. Using ball thread, R 7ds, join to p of ring from last round, 7ds, p, 7ds, join to p of next ring from last round, 7ds, cl; rw. Using shuttle thread, R 8ds, join to last p of clover leaf, 8ds, p, 8ds, cl; rw. Ch 14. Repeat 9 times, joining first ring of clover leaf to remaining picot of last ring made instead of first picot.
Round 3 - Stephanie Peters, Manchester, England 2 shuttles; remember, Kreinik braid was used on this round in the original.	R 3ds, 3p sep by 3ds, 3ds, cl; rw. Using other shuttle, chain 10 ds, join with 'ball' thread to top of a trefoil picot on the previous round, 10 ds. Swap shuttles, ring as above. Swap shuttles, chain 10 ds. Using same shuttle, R 4 ds, join to last free picot of side ring on trefoil of previous round, 4ds, join to first free picot of adjacent trefoil's side ring, 4ds, cl. Chain 10 ds. Repeat to end, joining last chain to base of starting ring.
Round 4 - Di Michelson, Findlay, OH 2 shuttles	*R 4-4+4-4 (to p on R of last ch). Ch 4-4. SR: Sh 1 4-4/Sh 2 4-4. Ch 4-4* Repeat from * around. Tie and cut.
Round 5 - Kara Sheil, Lincoln, NE Motifs require a shuttle only.	Attached to the picots on either side of every other split ring, place the following motif (refer to picture). If you know how to use magic threads, lay on in the first ring and one in the last ring of each motif to pull in the ends and avoid having to sew in 20 ends. Small ring 2+ (to p of previous round's chain)2-2-2, cl. Leave small space of thread. R 3+3-3-3, cl. Leave small space of thread. R 4+4-4-4, cl. Leave small space of thread. R 5+5-5-5, cl. Leave small space of thread. R 4+4-4-4, cl. Leave small space of thread. R 3+3-3-3, cl. Leave small space of thread. Small ring 2+ 2-2+(to p of next chain of previous round)2, cl. You will do this 10 times.
Shuttle and ball now required.	*R 6-4+ (to p of previous round ring of 5 ds) 4-6, cl; rw. Ch 6-6-6-6-6; rw. R 3-2+(to p of previous round ring of 3 ds)2-3, cl; rw. Ch 3-3-3-3-3; rw. R 6-4+ (to p of previous round split ring) 4-6, cl; rw. Ch 3-3-3-3-3; rw. R 3-2+(to p of previous round ring of 3 ds)2-3, cl; rw. Ch 6-6-6-6-6; rw.* Repeat from * until round is complete, joining last chain to base of first ring formed. ,
