Change of Marriage
One of the most important aspects of life – marriage – has changed over the last 30 years. Is this relationship better or worse than before?
Thirty years ago, the Church had a big authority in Poland, people were very religious. As a result, the institution of marriage were almost sacred. When a man wanted to marry a woman, not only did he have to properly propose to her, but he also should have asked her father for her hand. After they had got married, the woman had to stay at home and become a housewife, the husband was the most important person in the house. Also there should have been a lot of children to inherit parents’ will and belongings. Of course, divorces were not common and sometimes even not acceptable.
Nowadays, in Poland, there are a lot of marriages, but not as much as earlier. The reason of it could be that women started to become independent at work and in their life and they want to make a successful career. Moreover, there are many married women who actually work instead of their husbands. Consequently, the model of family has changed from a large one into the ‘2 + 1’ (parents and one child). Divorces are not so rare now, so single-parent families stopped to be that unusual.
To sum up, in the past the marriage lasted until the death, it was more productive for the society, but it was very difficult for ambitious women. Now, this is sometimes unstable relationship. However, everything depends on you and your partner.
