TOPIC / THEME: Speed Development with Change of Direction
OBJECTIVE OF PRACTICE:
To develop the players quick footwork and change of direction skills
ORGANISATION:
10 cones set up as per diagram
12 - 18 players
Players walk into the 1st cone, no standing starts
Players run to at an angel from the 1st cone and changes direction to the 2nd cone
All players must walk back
Work / rest ratio is 1:5
3 - 5 reps per set
1 - 2 sets per session
2 minutes rest between sets
KEY OBSERVATION FACTORS:
Use short steps
Drop the shoulder and flex the knees when changing direction
Drive off the outside leg to change direction
Maintain good arm mechanics
NOTES:
Arms mechanics are as vital in lateral movements as they are in linear movements.
