Witamy,
Jesteśmy studentkami I roku Pedagogiki, na Uniwersytecie Opolskim. Temat związany z eurosieroctwem wybrałyśmy dlatego, gdyż w czasach współczesnych jest on bardzo aktualny, coraz częściej możemy zaobserwować powstawanie nowej kategorii rodzin – rodzin z czasową nieobecnością jednego rodzica lub obojga. Zjawisko to spowodowane jest wzrostem bezrobocia i niskimi dochodami niewystarczającymi niekiedy na utrzymanie rodziny,. Wyjazdy zagraniczne w celach znalezienia lepiej płatnej pracy noszą miano emigracji zarobkowych, my zajmiemy się problemem związanym nie tyle ze zjawiskiem emigracji co z eurosieroctwem i tym jak radzą sobie dzieci, których rodzice znajdują się poza granicami kraju.
Welcome,
We are students of the first year of Pedagogy at Opole University. The topic we chose for today’s presentation revolves around the euro-orphanhood which nowadays is an up-to-date notion. Increasingly, we can observe the creation of new type of family in which either one or both parents are temporarily absent from home. The reason for this phenomenon is the rise in unemployment and low income, which sometimes does not suffice to support a family. Going abroad, in order to find a better-paid job, is referred to as the economic emigration. We will deal not so much with the phenomenon of emigration as with the euro-orphanhood and the way the children, whose parents are abroad, cope with the situation.

Firstly, we will present a theoretical approach to this study, then we will describe the problem of euro-orphanhood, and in the end we will depict the reasons and results for this phenomenon.

Mianem eurosieroctwa psychologowie określają zjawisko pozostawiania w kraju dzieci przez rodziców wyjeżdżających za granicę(...), zdaniem, dzieci pozbawione stałego kontaktu nawet z jednym z rodziców, czują się jak sieroty.
Przyczyny występowania zjawiska eurosieroctwa są powszechnie znane, wynikają one w większości w migracji zarobkowych. Eurosieroctwo powoduje u dzieci zachowania zaliczane w literaturze psychologicznej i pedagogicznej do niedostosowania społecznego (np. zamykanie się w sobie czy nałogi – narkomanię, alkoholizm). Inne reakcje to zachowania demonstracyjne wrogie, agresja wobec nauczycieli, zastępczych opiekunów, kolegów w szkole.
The psychologists label the term of euro-orphanhood to the phenomenon of leaving children at home by their parents, who go abroad. According to the psychologists, children deprived of constant contact to even one of the parents, feel like they were orphans.
The reasons for the euro-orphanhood incidence are widely known. In most cases, they derive from the economic migration. Euro-orphanhood evokes attitudes, which, in psychological and pedagogical literature, are referred to as social awkwardness (e.g. clamming up or turning to addictions such as drug addiction, alcoholism). Other reactions include demonstrative hostile behaviours and aggression against teachers, guardians or schoolmates.

Szacuje się, że w 2009 roku w 110 tysiącach polskich rodzin dzieci wychowuje się bez co najmniej jednego z rodziców, którzy wyemigrowali za granicę. Taką informację przedstawili Rzecznikowi Praw dziecka pracownicy Fundacja „Prawo Europejskie”,
w kwietniu 2010 r.
It is estimated that in the year 2009, in 110 thousand Polish families children were raised up without at least one of the parents, who emigrated abroad. Such an information was presented to the Commissioner for Children's Rights in April 2010 by the employees of ‘Prawo Europejskie’ Foundation.

Efektem eurosieroctwa i braku opieki jest wagarowanie, opuszczanie się dzieci w nauce, porzucanie szkoły, wcześniejszy kontakt
z alkoholem, używanie narkotyków i wchodzenie w środowiska patologiczne. Przedstawiony wykres ilustruje procentowe zestawienie najczęściej występujących patologii związanych z eurosieroctwem.
The effect of euro-orphanhood and lack of supervision is truancy, getting slack in studies, dropping out of school, early contact with alcohol, drug abuse as well as entering pathological environments. The following chart illustrates percentile summary of the most frequently occurring pathologies in connected to euro-orphanhood.
SLIDE 7. Psychological results of euro-orphanhood for children
Dzieci, których rodzice wyemigrowali z kraju w celach zarobkowych nie potrafią sobie poradzić z tym, co je spotkało, tłamszą to w sobie, wybuchając czasem dla chwilowego odreagowania. Dzieje się tak dlatego, że dzieci, których rodzice wyjechali, nie zawsze mają dobrą opiekę. Najczęściej pozostają z dziadkami lub ciociami, a tym nie zawsze udaje się podołać wychowawczym wyzwaniom.
Children, whose parents emigrated for economic reasons, cannot deal with the situation. They repress it, sometimes bursting out to temporarily abreact. It happens because children, whose parents went abroad, are not always under a good care. Most frequently, they are left with grandparents or aunts, who cannot handle challenges brought by upbringing.

In this slide, we would like to present interdisciplinary research over euro-orphanhood in Poland between years 2004 – 2010 and we will discuss the institutional assistance in its solving.
SLIDE 9. Pomoc ze strony szkoły
Bardzo często dziecko migrantów musi przeprowadzać się do innego opiekuna lub specjalnie wynajętego w tym celu lokum (pokój, mieszkanie, internat). Szkoły i świetlice organizują warsztaty wspomagające rozwój dzieci. Zajmując im wolny czas stwarza się warunki do prawidłowego rozwoju oraz uczy samodzielności. Równocześnie uświadamia się je, że nie zostały same i zawsze mogą liczyć na wsparcie ze strony pedagogów.
What help does the school provide?
Very often migrants’ child has to move out to another guardian or a specially rented accommodation (room, flat or dormitory). Schools and club-rooms organize workshops contributing to children’s development. By the means of taking up children’s leisure time, schools create conditions for normal development and teach the euro-orphans independence. Simultaneously, the children are getting aware of the fact that they are not left alone and they can always count on the support from the pedagogues.
SLIDE 10. Społeczne skutki migracji
Społeczeństwo również odczuwa skutki problemu migracji. W przypadku emigracji szczególną uwagę przykuwa spadek przyrostu naturalnego oraz tworzenie się mniejszych ilości rodzin (coraz więcej osób żyje samotnie, co ułatwia im możliwość podróżowania
w poszukiwaniu pracy). W przypadku masowych wyjazdów ludności skutkiem może być również wielokulturowość i zanikanie kultur tradycyjnych – tworzenie się jednolitej masowej kultury europejskiej. Zdarza się jednak, że napływ migrantów powoduje zwiększanie się granic między poszczególnymi kulturami, co przekłada się na fakt, że migranci wypierają się swojej kultury.
Social effects of migration
The society also undergoes the effects of the problem of migration. In the case of migration, special attention should be paid to the population growth decline and the decline in number of families (more and more people decide to be single, which simplifies traveling in search of a job). In view of the massive migration, another effect is the multiculturalism and vanishing of traditional cultures – which in result redounds to creation of uniform massive European culture. What is more, the inflow of migrants gives rise to the increase of borders between particular cultures, which in the end makes the migrants disowning their culture.
