First published in Paris in the 1920s, Beatrice was probably written in Britain al the end of the nineteenth century. It is remarkable both for the standard of its prose and for its subject rnatter, and this edition lias an explanatory introduction by Patrick Henden.
Beatrice, the twenty-five year old heroine of the story, flees from a loveless marriage and, together with her equally attractive sister Caroline, finds comfortand a new beginning in the disciplined household of her aunt and uncle.
