Self-Assessment Module o
A There are and always have been as many different types of musie as there are shades ofeolours in the rainbow. However, the musie I find most enjoyable is classical musie.
Ciassieai musie never goes out offashion. it is always popular, and it makes people from every generation experience a wonderful rangę offeelings and emotions.
Furthermore, elassical musie has a history and it is fascinating to learn about the eomposers who created these pieces of musie. By listening to and reading about elassical musie we ean learn about thelives and times of the great eomposers.
Finaliy, elassical musie is great in every situation. For a romantic evening, Chopin is ideał. When I want to relax, I listen to Mozart, and for a strong, heavy atmosphere, I ehoose Wagner.
Overall, I believe that there is a piece of classical musie to appeal to everyone. it is timefess and can truły calm the savage beast.
8 How to Revise Effectively!
We all know that revision is very stressful and time-consuming. However, there areanumberofusefulhints thatyou can bear in mind to make the task a lot easier.
First ofail, make a revision timetable. List all the subjeets that you have to revise and plan when you will study each topie. In this way, you will not forget to revise anything and you will not panie.
Secondly, take regular breaks. You may feei that you should study for as long as possible, but in actual fact, this is not the way to get the best results. You will take in far morę 'Information ifyou take a breakevery twenty minutes.
Finaliy, eathealthiiy, getplentyofsleep, buthavefun, too! Your body and mind cannot function if you are stressed, so remember to get all the nutrients and all the sleep you need, as well as enjoying a few laughs. It's good for you!
All in all, ifyou bear these points in mind, you should be able fo learn and retain all the information you need to help you pass yourexams. Goodluck!
C Our planet is facing a crisis. The land, water and air is so poiluted that ifsomething is not done soon, the earth will no longer be a nice place to live. We can all do our bit to help in the battie against poilution. ^
First ofail, we should all leave our ears at home and use public transport or bicycles to get around. Cars emit poisonous gases and cause airpollution. This results in acid rain which destroys buildings and poisons rivers and lakes.
Another way we can all help is to reeyele our waste. This will save on natura! resourees and will mean that there will be less rubbish to be disposed of and our planet will be a cleaner place to live.
Finaliy, we should save energy by using less water, gas and eleetricity. In this way we use less fossil fuels, and so cause less pollution and save ourplaneCs resourees.
In eonclusion, if we all do something now we can make a 3 difference. After all, as the saying goes, ‘many hands make lightwork'.
D DearSam,
I hopeyou're feeling better. It was such a shame that you weren't well and missed PauTs party I thought Td write and tell you all about it.
We all met at PauTs house at about seven o'clock. The place looked great - Paul had decorated it with balloons and streamers and there were coloured lights everywhere. He'd also hired a DJ, so there was fantastic musie playing. The atmosphere was briiliant.
Everyone was there (except you, of eourse) - all PauTs friends from college and a few of his neighbours, plus his brothers and his cousins. The house was fuli of people. We daneed for hours, only stopping to try some of the delicious food that PauTs mum had madę. There were sandwiehes, pies, biseuits and a huge cake with coloured ic/ng.
It's such a pity that you couldn’t make it, but don't worry -Paulsays he’s going to have another party soon! Well, that's all for now. Let's get together soon.

E Dear Paula,
Thanks for your letter. It was great to hear ali your news. Tm so glad that your parents are pianning to visit Clacton this summer.
If they want a good hotel to stay at, Td reeommend the Ambassador Hotel. It‘s a lovely modern hotel in the centre of town and it’s near the train station. It's comfortable and clean and the rates are veryreasonable. There's a resturant and a bar and lounge where they can re!ax in the evenings.
I should warn you, though, that theyll have to check out early on the day they leave, as the hotel expects guests to vacate their rooms by 8am. Also, being so near the station may mean that it's quite noisy. While the rooms are lovety, they don‘t have much ofa view and there‘s no pool at the hotel.
I hope your parents have a great holiday. Ifyou want to know anything else, just drop me a linę.
Best wishes,
Sarah

Picture A shows a man getting out of his car on the Street. He has been stopped by the police. Perhaps he drove through a red lightor he may have been speeding. Picture B, on the other hond, shows a woman in a witness box in a courtroom being questioned by a lawyer. She may be a witness or she may be a defendant. Both situations would be very stressful because the consequences ofeach person's actions could be severe. The man could be arrested, he may lose his licence or he may receive a fme and a ticket. The woman could go to jail or could be responsible for sending someone else to jail. I think the courtroom situation in picture B is probably the most stressful because it is a very seńous situation with far-reaching conseguences.

Picture A shows a group ofyoung people who are walking in the countryside. Picture B also shows people in the countryside, but they are two older women. Both pictures show friends. The teenagers in picture A look like they are on holiday. Perhaps they are staying at a summer camp and are taking a walk in the surrounding area on a Sunday afternoon. They don 'r have any backpacks with them so itmustbe a short walk. In contrast, the two women in picture B do have backpacks so they are probably on a longer walk. They could be on a walking holiday.

Richard Peck‘s A Łono Way from Chicago, is the story of an elderly Joey Dowdel recounting the summer hoiidays he and his sister, Mary Alice, had with theirgrandmothereveryyearstarting in 1929.
It is set during the yeors ofthe Great Depression in rurai Illinois. Young Joey Dowdel takes us on a journey with his sister from Chicago to visit his larger-than-life Grandma. Each chapter of the book is a story and each short story descńbes the events of the visits with this grand woman. At First, Joey and his sister believe that spending time at Grandma DowdeFs is a waste of time. However, through theyears, she teaches them the valueofhonesty, friendship and living a simple life.
The main characters are very interesting and funny. The minor characters are often strange, but completely believable and typical of those that are found in a smal! country town. Richard Peck is a fantastic storyteller and weaues these characters into a senes of stories set against a realistic Depression era landscape.
This book will appeal to both young and old alike with its funny, stories and wonderfuily memorabie characters. I highly recommend it.

I think that the laws should be very strict so that the punishment fits the crime. In this way, criminals will think twice before committing a crime and bopefully tbe world would be a safer place.
