Self-Assessment Moauie i
A There are and always have been as many different types of musie as there are shades ofeolours in the rainbow. However,
the musie I find most enjoyable is classical musie.
Classical musie never goes out of fashion. It is atways popular, and it makes people from every generation expeńence o wonderful rangę offeelings and emotions.
Furthermore, classical musie has a history and it is fascinating to learn about the composers who created these pieces of musie. By listening to and reading about classical musie we can leotn about the lives and times ofthe greot composers.
Finally, classical musie is. great in every situation. For a romantic evening, Chopin is ideał. When I want to relax, I listen to Mozart, and for a stronę, heavy atmosphere, I choose Wagner.
Overall, I believe that there is a piece of classical musie to oppeal to everyone. It is timeless and can truły calm the savage beast.
8 HowtoReviseEffectively!
We all know that revision is very stressful and time<onsuming. However, there are a numberofuseful hints thatyou can bear in mind to make the task a lot easier.
First ofall, make a revision timetable. List all the subjects that you have to revise and plan when you will study each topie. In
this way, you will not forget to revise anything and you will not panie
Secondly, take regular breaks. You may feęl thatyou should study for as long as possible, but in actual fact, this is not the way to get the best results. You will take in far morę infbrmation ifyou take a break every twenty minutes.
Finally, eat healthily, getplentyofsleep, buthavefun, too! Your body and mind cannot function if you are stressed, so
remember ro get all the nutrients and all the sleep you need, as well as enjoying a few laughs. It's good for you!
All in all, ifyou bear these points in mind, you should be able fo learn and retain all the Information you need to help you pass yourexams. Goodluck!
C Our planet is facing a crisis. The land, water and air is so polluted that ifsomething is not done soon, the earth wili no ionger be a nice place ro live. We can all do our bit to help in the battle against poilution.
First ofall, we should ali leave our cars at home and use public transport or bicydes to get around. Cars emitpoisonous gases and cause air poilution. This results in acid rain which destroys buildings and poisons rivers and lakes.
Another way we can all help is to recycle our waste. This will save on natural resources and will mean that there will be less rubbish to be disposed of and our planet will be a cleaner place to live.
Finally, we should save energy by using less water, gas and electricity. In this way, we use less fossil fuels, and so cause less poilution and save ourplanefs resources.
In condusion, if we all do something now we can make a difference. After all, as the saying goes, 'many hands make lightwork'.
D DearSam,
I hopeyou're feeling better. It was such a shame thatyou weren't well and missed PauTs party. I thoughtTd write and tell you all about it.
We all met at PauTs house at about seven odlock. The place looked'great - Paul had decorated it with balloons and streamers and there were coloured lights everywhere. He'd also hired a DJ, so there was fantastic musie playing. The atmosphere was brilliant.
Everyone was there (except you, of course) - all PauTs friends from college and a few of his neighbours, plus his brothers and his cousins. The house was fuli of people. We danced for hours, only stopping to try some of the delicious food that PauTs mum had madę. There were sandwiches, pies, biscuits and a huge cake with coloured icing.
lt's such a pity thatyou couldn't make it, but don't worry -Paulsays he's going to have another party soon! Well, that's all for now. Lefs get together soon.
Love

E Dear Paula,
Thanks for your letter. It was great ro hear alt your news. Tm so glad that your parents are planning to visit Clacton this summer.
If they want a good hotel to stay at, Td recommend the Ambassador Hotel. Ifs a lovely modern hotel in the centre of town and ifs near the train station. Ifs comfortable and dean and the rates are veryreasonable. There's a resturant and o bar and lounge where they can re!ax In the evenings.
i should warn you, though, that theyll have to check out early on the day they leave, as the hotel expects guests to vacate their rooms by 8am. Also, being so near the station may mean that ifs quite noisy. While the rooms are lovely, they dont have much ofa view and there's no pool at the hotel.
I hope your parents have a great holiday. If you want to know anything elsejust drop me a linę.
Best wishes,
Sarah

Picture A shows a man getting out ofhis car on the Street. He has been stopped by the police. Perhaps he drove through a red iightorhe may have been speeding. Picture B, on the other hond, shows a woman in a witness box in a courtroom being questioned by a lawyer. She may be a witness or she may be o defendant. Both situations would be very stressful because the consequences of each person's actions could be severe. The man could be arrested, he may lose his licence or he may receive a fine and a ticket. The woman could go to jail or could be responsible for sending someone else to jail. I think the courtroom situation in picture B is probably the most stressful because it is a very serious situation with fanreaching conseguences.

Richard Peck's A Łona Wav from Chicago, is the story ofan elderly Joey Dowdel recounting the summer holidays he and his sister, Mary Alice, had with theirgrandmothereveryyearstarting in 1929.
It is set during the yeors of the Great Depression In ruraI Illinois. Young Joey Dowdel takes us on a journey with his sister from Chicago to visit his larger-than-life Grandma. Each chapter of the book is a story and each short story describes the events of the visits with this grand woman. At first, Joey and his sister believe that spending time at Grandma Dowdefs is a waste of time. However, through theyears, she teaches them the value ofhonesty, friendship and living o simple iife.
The main characters are very interesting and funny. The minor characters are often strange, but completely believable and typical of those that are found in a smali country town. Richard Peck is a fantastic storyteller and weaves these characters into a series of stories set against a realistic Depression era landscape.
This book will appeal to both young and old alike with its funny stories and wonderfuHy memorable characters. I highly recommend it.

I think that the laws should be very strict so that the punishment fits the crime. In this way criminals will think twice before committing a crime and hopefully the wortd would be a safer place.
