In order for the stitches not to hccoinc loose ensily when you start u new skein. work the sclwdge stitch at the end of the row with the old yarn and the ncw yarn. Turn the piece and work the sehedge stitch and sevcrul sńtclics with the new yarn. Thcn puli >>n bctch yams so that the stitches will not get any liuiser agam.

Sewing In Yarn Ends

Since knitted pieces are morę stretchuble in wklth thnn m length, yarn ends are always sewn individual~ ly and ecrtically into the sehedge stirches. Ii they were sewn in honront.illy, ihc ends COC kl e.isily come through to the front.

It docsn’t mat ter whether you sew the yarn ends in hefore or alt er you sew the picccs together. When you are working with thin yarn, it i> berter to sew the yarn ends in after u-u have sewn the pieces together. Since the sclredge sritchcs insi fre-quently also the stitches ncxt to them heconte thickcr when you sew the yarn ends in, it might not be possihle ro distinguish the in-dividual stitches clearly my morę. That makes it morę difttcult to sew the pieccs together. Also, you can usc the yarn ends for sewing.

Iln order that the first stitches with the new yarn don't come loose. work the last scfvedge stitch with both yams and turn the piece.

Ilf you must sew yarn ends in within a knitted piece, put the needle through the stitch next to the yarn end so that the stitch is completed.

When you are using hcavy yarn with smali lengths of yarn on a skein. it cotild casily happen tlt.it a skein end' in the middle of a piece. What* ever you do, dont make n knot! Not only are knois unattracrivc, they can unravel while the piece is be mg worn or washed. and thcn the piece i$ almost impossihle to savc.

Cut the yarn ends to ałunu 4" long and sew them m as described on middle photos I .md 2 above.

2 Work the selvedgo stitch and several stitches of the row with the new ynm, and then puli the yarn ends tight.

Then sew the yarn end in vertically. Never catch whole stitches, just parts of them. and don't puli the yarn too tight.

You can sew m yarn ends at the edges beforo or after you sew the pieces together. Always sew them individually and vertically into the selvedge stitches or seam.
