Food Adjectives
Skills: Description, Creating a List, Using Adjectives Activity;
Explain lo sludcnts that words which describe things are called adjectives, and give examp)es. When studenta are comfortable identifying adjectives, namc a lood for thcm to describe. Have the children list as many words as they can think of tu describe the food. Write the list on chart paper and count how many adjectives they named. Rcpeat the activity, lelting studenta take tums choosing the food to be described.
Alphabet Food List
Skills: Logical Thought, Use of Beginning Lettcr Sounds Activity:
Tell the children that they are going to go through the alphabet naming all of the foods they can think of for each lelter. Write the letlers of the alphabet on chart paper and record all the foods sludenls can think of that begin with each letter as they dictate them. When finished, have the children see which letter has the most food words listed beneath it.
As an cxtcnsion, share the book Eating the Alphabet, by Lois Ehlert (Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich, 1989), with the class.
