BOOK BINDING TUTORIAL

1. Take the thick heavy cardboard and cut 2 pieces about 1/2" inch longer and wider than the bound pages. (could go 1/4" larger than that if you felt the need)

2. Cut a third piece the same length as ■''the first two pieces but only barely

wider than the height of the bound

pages.

1.    Take the fabric or what ever you found for the cover and cut it so it's either 1/2" inch taller and wider (or 3/4" taller/wider)on all sides of the cardboard .

2.    Take the spray glue if you have it and spray the back side of the fabric, allow to tack up a bit and place the cardboard onto the fabric as depicted. Smooth it down to make surę there are no bubbles or wrinkles under the surface.

Notę: When placing the cardboard onto the fabric be surę to place the middle piece with just a little space be-tween tne 3 pieces so that there is room for the cover to bend.

Cut off the corners of the fabric diago-nally. By the narrow piece of cardboard cut just a slit up to the edge of the cardboard. This will allow for easy fold-ing.

Fold the edges of the fabric over the cardboard and glue down. Edges should still be tacky enough from spray glue to stick but from experience spray glue doesnt always kept the eages down

Jwith heavy things like fabric so a heavier glue like Elmer's or hot glue would be recommended for the edges.

Glue the bound edge of the pages to the thin strip of cardboard with the Elmer's glue.

Before gluing in the colored pages as shown in the next step, glue down the first and last page of the bound pages to the cardboard to reinforce it making surę the cover and pages do not separate.

Take the two colored pieces of cardstock or decorative paper and fold in half.

Apply a thin layer of glue spread evenly on the larger piece ot cardboard and place the paper so that it covers the edges of the fabric. Put a generous amount of glue on the fold of the colored paper.

Do the same with the other colored page, this hides all the seams, cardboard, and binding.

Stack heavy things on the book or stick it tightly between two objects; be surę to make surę there is adequate pres-sure on the bind so it will be secure when dry.
