Meniscus of the Knee
An iniury to the meniscus of the knee generaUy presents itself with pain during movements of extcnsion and rotation. Therc will be joint linę pain and in chronię meniscus lesions or meniscal cyst.
An inacased incidence of meniscus lesions occur to the media] meniscus due to iłs attachment to the medial capsule. Injury generaUy resuits from knee extension and rotation .
The Kinesio method will assiśt by reducing joint effusion and pain. Optional treatments may include basie Kinesio muslce techniąues for muscle wcakness.
InitiaJ treatment for infiammation oredema is provided by applying two Kinesio lymphatic correc-tive techniques For complete review see lymphatic corrective technique.
The location of the lymphatic correcłive strips is determincd by the practitioner during the eva!uation. Cenerally the lymphatic fan tails should form a crisscross pattern over the area of effusion.
Option 1: space correction, apply a space correc-tion technique to either the lateral or medical aspecł of the knee depending upon the patients symptoms. For complete review see space correction technique.
Begin by placing the patients knee in fuli exten-sion. Tear the middle of a 4-6 inch Kinesio I strips paper baeking. Apply 20-25% stretch to the Kinesio strip and apply directly over the area of pain as indicated by the pa tient.
Lay down the two ends of the Kinesio I strip without tension. Initiate glue activation prior to any further patient movement.
Application of Kinesio strip Y tcchnique for vastus medialis origin to insertion tcchnique. To assist a weakcncd vastus medialis resulting from effusion.
Optional:
Application of Kinesio strip Y technique for rectus femoris, superior Y tcchnique. For complete review see patella tendonitis.
Option:
Application of the Kinesio patella tendonitis U strip. For complete review see patella tendonitis.
For additional options see, Osteochrondrosis of the knee, patella tracking syndrome, subluxating patella, or chondromalacia patella.
