PICTURE HAT

MATERIALS: 20 gr of DMC Special Cordonnet (Art. 151) no. 20 crochet cot-ton, white, plus a few metres of yellow no. 745, blue no. 799. pink no. 3326, and shad-ed violet. A Steel crochet hook size 0.75 mm (no. 5).

METHOD: Rnd 1: Form lp with end of thread and into it work 24 tr (3 ch count as first tr of a rnd); close this and each md up to Rnd 16 inclusive with a sl st in the 3^rd of 3 ch sts at beg of rnd. and in Rnds 8-10 and 12-15 work forward with sl sts as far as first lp. Rnds 2-3: Work tr over tr as indi-cated in the chart. Rnd 4: 4 ch (3 to count as first tr, 1 to form first mesh) and rep * 1 tr over next st but one, 1 ch*. Rnd 5: See chart. Rnd 6: Pick up 32 meshes in this rnd, skipping 1 tr 3 times and 2 tr once bet meshes as indicated. Rnds 7-17: Follow the chart. In Rnd 9 and in Rnds 14 and 15 alternate 1 mesh formed with 3 ch sts and 1 mesh formed with 2 ch sts. In Rnd 17 work 1 dc over each st, close with a sl st over the first dc and cut the thread. FLOWER: Rnd 1: Form lp with end of indicated thread, 1 ch, and work * 1 dc, 3 ch, 2 tr, 3 ch* 5 times into lp, close with a sl st over the first dc. Rnd 2: Fold the petals of Rnd 1 towards you, work 1 ch and rep *1 dc over dc of Rnd 1, 3 ch*, close as for preceding md. Rnd 3: 1 ch and rep * 1 dc over dc, 3 ch, 3 tr in next lp, 3 ch*, close as for Rnd 1 and cut the thread. RIBBON: Using shaded violet, beg with 5 ch for a fndtn ch and work as many rows of 5 trebles each as necessary to go around the crown. Join the last row with sl sts under the fndtn ch and cut the thread. Attach the ribbon and decorate the hat with flowers as shown in the sketch.
