The lesser celandine (Ranunculus fascaria) is a member of the buttercup family that grows in woods, grassland, alongside streams and as a garden weed. It has been used by herbalists to treat scrofula and morę recently, haemorrhoids. The poet William Wordsworth wrote: ‘There is a flower, the lesser celandine/ That shrinks, like many morę, from cold and rain/ And, the firm moment that the sun may shine/ Bright as the sun himself, ’tis out again!’ The card in this project shows a two-spot ladybird visiting the plant.
