I used a double mortise and tenon joint. A simple dowel joint will do too.

Bracket to hołd shaft.

Make out of one piece, 7.5 x 2 x 4 cm. drill 5/8" hole and screw holes, then cut into two parts.

If you have built my screw advance box joint jig, use 1/4" fingers. Otherwise, use a rabbet joint, and insert several splines into the corners to make it morę rigid.

Slot for vertical locking knob. Cut with a 1/2" router bit.

simple dowel joint in place of double mortise tenon joints will do too.
