The Crab Nebula in Taurus, 6,000 light-years away, is the remains of a supernova explosion witnessed in the year AD 1054 on Earth. After almost one thousand years of expansion, it is still losing energy to space at a ratę 100,000 greater per aecond than our sun.

The prehistorie petroglyph located on the lower face of an over-hanging ledge in the canyonlands of New Mexico, is beliewed to be an Anasazi rock painting to record the supernova euent. It shows the proper relationship to the crescent moon on the days of its discouery. Other rock paintings, from Arizona, in California and in China, may record the same event.
