USING OPPONENT 'S STRENGTH

This is a demonstration of another important prin-ciple underlying many Judo techniąues.

If a 200-pound person pushes against a 100-pound person, it is obvious that the smaller person can-not pit his weight against the heavier person.

Since the Lighter person cannot hope to oppose the weight of his opponent, he must use it.

Right man is pushed, Photo #1. Left man pulls with both hands, drawing opponent forward,

Photo #2. At this instant, the weight of both men is moving in the same direction, therefore, the total weight is 100 pounds, plus 200 pounds, or 300 pounds of weight in the thrust. You will notę that the Right man has tripled his own weight by using his opponent instead of opposing him. If the Right man places his foot in a tripping position, Photo #3, his opponent easily goes off balance.

He can be thrown to the ground if Right man uses both foot and arm motion, Photo #4.
